Donna Starr-Gimeno and I were fast friends long before we started in dogs but can’t imagine what we used to talk about back then! Donna was a Denver police officer and partners with my husband James. Fred, Donna’s husband was also a police officer in the same district. I was a part-time kindergarten teacher and a full-time mom.

These days, I’m a full time kindergarten teacher (not sure how that happened!) a mother of a teenager, and a breast cancer survivor! Donna is now a Denver Police Lieutenant and working hard towards becoming a Captain. Our husbands are still with the police department too, but prefer to think of themselves as avid fishermen!

Donna and I both grew up active in horse shows, so when Donna decided to get a purebred puppy, it was only natural we fell into showing! As fate would have it, in 1994, we happened into a great line of Standard Schnauzers. With great mentors, great dogs and great friends, we were HOOKED! Donna’s first Standard Schnauzer, " Gus " CH. Geistvoll Takin’ the Lead finished quickly and was soon followed by " Greta " CH. Geistvoll XLR aten’. I started out with " Liesl ", CH. Showboat Starkist of Tsunami who I novice-ly finished in record time!

After learning the ropes and helping others, Donna and I took Greta and Liesl to the 1996 National, and we did well! Greta won the Puppy Sweeps and went Reserve Winner’s Bitch, and Liesl took Best of Opposite! If there were ever two bitches to start a great foundation upon, these two girls were it! And so far . . .well, we’re still HOOKED!
