  Rumor's About the Breed
  2pups

Standard Schnauzers make wonderful companions. They are a healthy, robust and loyal breed. They do well with children and other pets when socialized at a young age. Standard Schnauzers are NOT "large" miniature Schnauzers. They are a completely different breed! The Standard Schnauzer is a medium sized dog,

easily fitting in the car and bathtub, while still intimidating strangers with their serious expression and deep bark when the doorbell rings.

Standard Schnauzers need to be groomed routinely. This breed does not have a real "doggy" odor and legs and beards are all that typically need to be washed out occasionally. They should be brushed weekly and shaved (a pet trim) or hand stripped every 6-8 weeks. The pet trim is a non-shedding trim, and those owners who prefer a hand stripped coat won't find that the breed "sheds" either. People who have pet allergies do fantastic with this breed.

Flash

Standard Schnauzers are very versatile dogs! They are very intelligent and learn quickly. Going from lazy walks around the park, hiking in the hills, herding in the fields or to intense agility trials, obedience trials or the dog show ring. . . this breed never misses a beat.

It is highly suggested that you take an obedience class with your puppy, so both you and your dog learn to effectively communicate! This bit of effort, in the beginning, is essential if both you and your dog are to share a thoroughly enjoyable life together for the next 12-15 years!

Obedience

Standard Schnauzers are not easy to find. This is because reputable breeders carefully screen their breeding stock for health and temperament. Puppy buyers are also carefully screened. Puppies sold as companions come with a neuter/spay agreement. Most Standard Schnauzer breeders want to find the perfect match for their dogs. Many breeders will become your mentor and friend!

Please contact us for more information about this unique dog! We breed occasionally for both pet and companion show homes. We are members of the Standard Schnauzer Club of America and support Colorado rescue.
